Happy DYRDEK Day Everyone!

Happy DYRDEK Day everyone!! … But What the heck is DYRDEK day??

D.Y.R.D.E.K or Did You Really Do Everything Kind Day is one of the many, many, MANY! creations of Pro Skateboarder, turned entrepreneur, turned celebrity, turned angel investor Rob Dyrdek.

On February 1st 2011, Rob decided to lead his team, on a 24 hour mission to spread kindness to their friends, colleagues, neighbours and complete random strangers that they ran into throughout the day.

Thanks to the success and publicity it created, in 2012 the Mayor of Los Angeles declared February 1st officially DYRDEK day and it has continued ever since.

So why should you care?

Although I’m sure we all spend everyday in an unending and selfless bonanza of kindness, what can we learn from this day? and how did it help Rob Dyrdek towards his current estimated $45 million personal worth?

Well, people do business with people.

I know it’s a horrible cliché, but it remains true.

Would you rather do business with someone who uses their social media to raise awareness of positive events and ways you can help charities, while still talking about their amazing business, or someone who only posts pictures of their dinner in a very posh restaurant? … Worth thinking about what you would rather see on social media before you do your next post!

It might sound cynical, but imagine if you could grow your online following (and therefore your potential customers) by showing and sharing your acts of kindness.

Who loses in this situation? No one! - Even if you don’t plan on handing out free Lamborghinis to passers by what would be the effect on your business (and your feel good factor) if you spent 30 minutes a week helping out businesses that have provided you with great service.

A properly written review or sharing their business on social media, with a description of what a great job they did will definitely brighten their day and who knows, one day they might even DYRDEK you!

So happy DYRDEK Day to you and if you do decide to hand out Lamborghini’s you know where we are!

Happy DYRDEK Day Everyone!
